Four notorious armed robbers shot a Police man in a Barbing saloon and killed an Igbo businessman in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State.
The notorious armed robbers, Okon Orok Asukwo, Nsikak Eyo Okon, Sunday Ita Ekpo and Saviour Immanson Udofia ages ranges from 20-23 were arrested by Special Anti Robbery Squads (SARS) in Calabar.
Speaking with DAILY NEWS in Calabar on Tuesday, the SARS Commander in the State, Mr. Victor James Sang said the suspects have been terrorizing the resident of Calabar South local government area and its environment in the past.
He said on the 10th June 2018, the suspects attacked a Barbing saloon, shot a Police man and from there, they moved to No 6 Atabong Street where they robbed one Aloysius Adigwo. Adigwo died on the spot.
The four armed robbers were arrested with arms, three locally made pistols and six cartridges.
Similarly, the Commander further said that on the 1st of July 2018, another Joseph Wilson was equally arrested with a locally made pistol and three cartridges.
“Obviously, he returned from committing felony, a lot of items were recovered from him but he is undergoing interrogation, other members of his gang will be arrested.
“Also, there is another notorious gang of three and are led by one ‘Beyond’. We arrested them and recovered a vehicle (Jetta) they used in robbery and two locally made pistol and three cartridges”. He stated.
He said the suspects have conversed to the crime and are consistently robbed a Bakery House along Edgerley road in Calabar.
Mr Usang noted that the suspects would be charge to court soon after investigation is completed.
“I assured the public that we can’t disappoint them, my Commissioner of Police has been very proactive about boosting and providing a lot of supports to SARS and to ensure that we crushed all the hoodlums, miscreants and armed robbers in the town to ensure that Calabar is at peace.
“We will not leave any stone unturned. We would want Judiciary to partner with us, because we don’t want the public to see us as if we are not working and because most of these suspects arraigned in courts are in one way or the other found back in the streets.
“Commissioner of Police is having a sleepless night, charging all units of the command: Anti kidnapping, SARS, Monitoring unit, Public complaint and all the DPOs to work hard but it seems as if they are not working.
We want Judiciary to partner with us so that we can put an end to crime in the state, that even if we can’t eradicate it, we can reduce it to barest minimum” he stated.
